Most Frequently Asked Questions
How it works?
Encrypt Email sends email messages with encrypt attachments. Mac based recipients will receive a DMG password protected file. Windows and Linux based recipients will receive a ZIP password protected archive instead. You can send these messages with your usual email client (supported clients are Apple Mail, Entourage and Eudora, if your default client email is another one, will be used Mail), or directly with Encrypt Email after entering a valid account. Please note that some email providers don’t accetp encrypted ZIP files attachments. One of such providers could be Gmail, please read a post on this topic on Google forums.
How to decompress a .zip password protected archive I received via email?
To decompress a password-protected archive you received, drag it over the icon of one of these applications:
- The Unarchiver (Mac OS X)
- 7zip (Windows)
- Stuffit Expander (Mac OS X and Windows)
How to open a .dmg password protected file I received via email?
To access the contents of a .dmg password protected file you received, just double-click its icon, enter the password and the content of the file will show up as a volume on your desktop. After working with it, eject the volume by clicking the Eject button in the sidebar of a Finder window or dragging its icon to the Trash. This kind of files can be natively accessed only on Mac OS X computers.
Why some recipients can’t receive an encrypted message or file?
The application encrypts the messages and the files using the format specified in the preferences. The default choice for Windows and Linux recipients is ZIP format.
